Again and again there are sudden inexplicable deaths with the shrimp-holding in our domestic aquariums. At that time and also still today, these deaths were lead back to wrong conditions or poisoning and nobody knew hardly anything about diseases of shrimps. But, what is really behind that?

General:
A shrimp hobby breeder from Germany , he is specialized for the breeding and holding of crustaceans invertebrates, told us about single deaths again and again. All started with the sudden death of single animals over several days until mass dying after acquiring new shrimps to an already existing shrimp trunk. Wrong conditions and poisoning could not be possible and there was no other obvious reason, so an illness was presumed behind that. Since no information about shrimp diseases existed und other breeders and holders weren't able to give information or experiences, in 2003 the first animals were brought to a specialist for adornment fish illnesses for an examination. These showed us that the animals were infected with Myxosporidien. Further investigations of other kinds of shrimps followed. All results and tests with medicines were documented.

The beginning was done. These results should be shared, of course, to help other breeders having the same problems. So the web page "Garnelenkrankheiten" (german) was born. Garnelenkrankheiten.de started in 2004 and went online at the 16th February 2005. At the beginning we could only serve with some tips for prevention or better conditions, descriptions of illness symptoms and pathogenic agents but now a big site has developed and we can call us a fixed size in the german internet.

What is the page about?
Beside many pictures with different illness symptoms and microscopic photos we also take a look at the basics of shrimp holding as well as at the prevention of diseases. The anatomy and the build of the shrimps and cancers is presented and you will also find a table of tested medications for shrimps giving you an answer if they fit or not. If you plan to give your shrimp to an examination, we can offer you a free examination as well as a 24 hour support in urgent cases, Please do not forget the pages about symptoms and possible treatments that can help you.

Our aim:
Through the positive resonance also from foreign countries with more than 1000 visitors per month, we found the motivation to continue the project and so in the beginning of year 2007 shrimp-diseases.com, the English antagonist to garnelenkrankheiten.de, will start for our foreign readers. In the meantime we are in contact with different breeders, biologists and doctors as well as with well known companies in Germany . Our aim was it in earlier times and is it still today to share our information and experiences of that very young topic with all other interested people. With the topic shrimp illness we have the same state as with the topic adornment fish illness 60 years ago. We are still at the beginning and so we are thankful for every support.
